Shuang Jiang

Born in Dalian, China in 1999, graduated from the Printmaking Department of Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts in 2022 and am currently pursuing my studies in the Painting Department at the Royal College of Art in London.

My work is primarily inspired by my profound concern for the vulnerability of self-harmers and the connection between nature and the individual. It reflects various stages of my psychological state and introspection. Proficient in capturing the texture of skin through printmaking, I perceive the skin as the body’s initial shield, tightly enveloping us yet also serving as the gateway through which we harm ourselves. Within my oil paintings, one can discern my understanding and concern for self-harmers, alongside contemplations on the shared qualities between individuals and nature. I believe that both individuals and nature possess fragile yet resilient attributes. My pieces encapsulate my understanding of death and life; in death, I become everything, never truly vanishing. Delving into my inner self, I perceive a profound interconnectedness with nature, merging into and enveloped by the universe’s elements.
